1 Discovery Call

Before working together, we like to have a preliminary call so we can understand your specific situation and explain how we can help you plan for your future.  

2 Initial Meeting

In our first official meeting, we’ll get to know more about you by guiding you through a couple of exercises to help you prioritize your financial life goals. 

3 Create Plan

Based on the goals you’ve defined, we will develop a custom-made comprehensive financial plan with recommendations to help you achieve your objectives. 

4 Present Plan

We will then meet with you once again to present the initial financial plan and provide advice in areas that are important to your success. We will answer questions like:

a. Can you successfully fund your financial goals?
b. Are your lifestyle and assets protected?
c. What changes can be made today to improve your chances of reaching your goals? 

5 Establish a Relationship

When the plan is complete, let’s decide if we want to continue the relationship. If deciding to collaborate long-term, you’ll continue to have access to our financial tools to help you track your progress from the comfort of your home and stay on top of your goals.


Q: What are your qualifications?

A: David Warshaw has been a financial adviser since 2004. He received his B.S.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from the Washington University in St. Louis in 2003. David is a Certified Financial Planner® professional. To attain the CFP® certification, an individual must fulfill educational requirements, pass a qualifying examination, complete at least three years of financial planning-related experience, and agree to be bound by the CFP Board's Standards of Professional Conduct. David also holds both the Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) as well as the Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®) designations from The American College.

Q: What is the company’s background?

A: David Warshaw started at a large financial services firm in 2004. He then launched The WealthPlan in 2010 as an independent financial advisor. He then launched The WealthPlan LLC – an SEC Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) in 2020. We specialize in comprehensive financial planning and wealth management. Q: Who is your typical client?

A: Our clients range in terms of age, income, and assets. Our goal is to help as many people as we can, which is why we have flexible service offerings. Please see our Services & Fees page on our website for more details.

Q: How do I verify you are safe to work with?

A: While there is no Yelp for advisors, you can research any firm or advisor by going to the Investment Advisor Public Disclosure website at by searching The WealthPlan LLC or the firm CRD # 306820.

Q: How is my money safe?

A: We use Charles Schwab, a third-party custodian, to hold and trade client assets. Your money is insured by the SIPC for up to $500,000 per account type. You should be aware that investing involves risk, including the potential loss of principal. No investment strategy can guarantee a profit or protect against loss in periods of declining values.

Q: Are you a fiduciary?

A: Yes, as a registered investment advisor, The WealthPlan LLC has a fiduciary obligation to our clients. Being a fiduciary means we are obligated to put our clients' interests ahead of our own.

Q: How do you get compensated?

A: We provide financial consulting for a flat fee under the Quick Start Planner program. For ongoing asset management, we charge a fee based on the amount of money we manage. Once we determine the scope of services you need, we will clearly disclose all fees. Please see the “Services and Fees” section of our website for more details.

Q: What does client service and communication look like?

A: David uses an electronic calendar system so clients can book calls or in-person meetings when it is convenient for them. He returns calls and texts within 24 hours (and usually sooner!). Please see our “Client Service Excellence” piece.

Q: What’s your investment philosophy?

A: David believes that there are two primary factors that drive real-life investment success – asset allocation and client behavior. As your captain, we aim to help you build the right portfolio that matches your risk tolerance and is fully diversified. Finally, it is imperative that you stick with the portfolio during volatile times in order to reach your goals. Please see the “Investment Approach” section of our website for more details.

Q: What investment strategies are offered?

A: We offer liquid capital market strategies utilizing individual stocks and ETFs. We also utilize alternative investments that may include real estate, private equity, private credit, and cryptocurrency. Alternatives can be accessed by both accredited and non-accredited investors. 

Q: How do you measure my investment performance?

A: We utilize specialized technology that calculates performance for our clients without needing to rely on historical statements.
